Children’s eye traumatism has always been and remains one of the major problems of ophthalmology, leading to disability of the working-age population. Even more important is the prevention and effective treatment of eye trauma in childhood, because the consequences of severe injuries limit the possibilities for education, career, and sometimes, socialization of children. Due to the changes in the way of children’s life in the recent decade, associated with the widely spread use of computer technologies and the Internet, the clinical and epidemiological features of children’s traumas were studied. The prevalence of eye injuries in children under 2 years of age from the urban population is stated. Seasonality of eye traumatism in children is marked — May-June and September-October. Among traumatic agents of penetrating wounds of the eyes, metal objects predominate, while sporting attributes prevail for contusions of eyes. Penetrating wounds in children are usually severe and lead to a persistent decrease in vision acuity. Among the eye contusions, non-severe injuries with a favorable outcome prevail.
Key words: ophthalmotrauma, eye traumas in children, penetrating wound of eye, eye contusion.
