Purpose – is to substantiate the use of fairy tale therapy in assessing the dynamics of personal and psycho-emotional indicators of children with stuttering.

Materials and methods. We examined 166 children aged from 7 to 13 y.o. observed by pediatric psychiatrists and neurologists of Arkhangelsk with a diagnosis of stuttering (F 98.5). The children were divided into two groups according to different methods of treatment: group I (93 people) – mainly group psychotherapy and fairy tale therapy, classes with a speech therapist, group II (73 people) – medical therapy and physiotherapy, classes with a speech therapist.

Results. It is shown that the use of group figurative-game fairy-tale therapy contributes to the normalization and improvement of mental, social and family functioning of children with stuttering, which leads to improved speech status, elimination of signs of personality deviation, and expansion of communication capabilities. Changes in the children’s personality characteristics are associated with the emergence of confidence, an increase in the indicator of social fitness, a decrease in anxiety against the background of positive dynamics of the psycho-emotional state. The possibility is shown to use fairy-tale therapy as a promising methodological framework for developing new models of group psychotherapy in children and adolescents with neuropsychiatric pathologies.
