 In the middle of the 19^th century, by the efforts of Prof. N.A. Vinogradov, a Society of Physicians was established at Kazan Emperor’s University. Obstetricians and gynecologists took an active part in it. By the end of the 19^th century, they published more than 200 scientific works and defended 5 doctoral dissertations. The prerequisite to separate obstetricians-gynecologists into an independent society was created. This mission fell to Prof. V.S. Gruzdev. First, in 1924, a section was created, and in 1935 it was transformed into a branch of All-Russian Scientific Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Then it was renamed as Kazan Scientific Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. The chairman was Prof. V.S. Gruzdev, and after his death in 1938 — Prof. I.F. Kozlov. From 1948 to 1974 the Society was headed by Prof. R.V. Manenkov.

The purpose is to preserve the memory about the work of obstetricians and gynecologists.
