Efficiency of organ-preserving operations and quality of life of women after postpartum hemorrhage

Objective ― to study the quality of life and condition of reproductive function of women after organ-preserving operations related to early postpartum uterine hemorrhage.
Material and methods. The research included 49 women who had compression hemostatic sutures put on uterine to stop the postpartum uterine hemorrhage and preserve the organ. The criteria for exclusion were coagulopatic obstetrics hemorrhage and the volume of blood loss over 30% of total blood circulation at the beginning of the operation. Retrospective analysis of medical documents was carried out, prospective questioning of women, testing with postnatal depression scales, and estimation of the quality of life with SF-36 36 scale.
Results. Efficiency of compression sutures was 98%, in one case they were ineffective, which required uterine extirpation. In 14 women out of 48 (29.1%), menstrual cycle distortions were revealed catamnestically. In 28 (61.5%) women, postnatal depression was confirmed. 30 out of 36 (87%) women had decreased quality of life. 8 (16.7%) women during 2 years after putting on sutures had repeated spontaneous pregnancy.
Conclusion. Compression sutures are an efficient method to stop postpartum uterine hemorrhage, which allows preserving fertility. However, a number of factors, including a large blood loss, may significantly decrease the life quality of the women.
