Basal secretion of lacrimal fluid (Schirmer-II test) and tear breakup time (Norn’s test) were studied in 33 patients with complaints characteristic of the dry eye syndrome one month after phacoemulsification. These patients have been prescribed a 30-day course of instillation of a 0.3% sodium hyaluronate solution in the operated eye, after which the Schirmer-II and Norn’s tests were repeated. The dynamics of the subjective state was studied on the basis of a score on the scale of the OSDI questionnaire.
Baseline data of basal secretion of lacrimal fluid and tear breakup time were slightly reduced (11.2 mm and 8.8 seconds, respectively). However, one month after the application of «Gilan Ultra Comfort», there was a tendency to normalization of quality of tear layer, reduced irritation of the eye surface and significantly reduced discomfort of patients according to the OSDI questionnaire (p≤0.05).
