The article presents the results of investigations of 66 eyes of 33 patients who underwent cataract surgery with intraocular lens implantation in one eye (main group); fellow eyes of the same patients made up the control group. Laboratory and clinical investigations were performed to assess the efficacy of 3rd generation fluoroquinolones instillations as pre-operation preparation. No significant difference was found between the main and control groups in the quantitative and qualitative composition of conjunctival microflora.

Key words: antibacterial drugs, conjunctival microflora, preoperative prophylaxis.
