Infectious complications considerably reduce positive results in proximal femur trauma treatment. Pneumonia and pressure ulcers as well as local postoperative wound septic complications are an inevitable phenomenon in this difficult category of patients.
The article presents analysis of the results of infectious complications prophylaxis program implementation in Orthopaedics and Traumatology Clinic of RCH named after N.A. Semashko, Ulan-Ude city.
The authors conclude that the combination of systemic antibiotic prophylaxis and observance of orthopaedic regime allowed to decrease the rate of surgical site infectious complication in the reviewed group of patients from 16,6% to 1,9%; pneumonias and pressure ulcers from 33,3% in 2006 to 3,9% in 2012. These data correlate with publications of colleagues in domestic and foreign literature but arenot an achievable minimum, which predetermines further improvement of surgical treatment of patients with proximal femur trauma.
Key words: proximal femur fracture, complications, antibiotic prophylaxis.
