Stanislav Maltsev is the Honored Science Worker of Russia and Tatarstan, associate member of Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan (AST), chairman of the board of the Union of Pediatricians of Russia, Chairman of the Scientific Council of the “Maternal and Child health care” at the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan, active member of Petrovskaya Academy of Sciences and Arts, “High achiever in Healthcare”, award winner named after A.G. Teregulova, Doctor of Medical Science, professor.
He graduated from Kazan State Medical University. Since 1976 he heads the department of pediatry with a course of polyclinic pediatry of the Kazan State Medical Academy. Topic of a candidate’s dissertation: “Clinical and experimental study of some enzyme systems in case of rachitis”. Topic of a doctoral dissertation: “Rachitis alike diseases of children”.
He worked as a pediatric physician, director of the Republican Center for Protection of Family, Motherhood and Childhood of the Ministry of Health of Republic of Tatarstan (1992-2001). People’s Deputies of the Russian Federation (1990 — 1993).
Significant progress has been achieved as a result of studies on the mineral metabolism of children, provision of vitamin D of different population groups, Pediatric Nephrology, Medical and social problems of family and childhood, the role of trace elements in the development of disease in humans, the study of the role of intrauterine infections in the pathology of women, children and adolescents.
For the first time in the Soviet Union along with his students S.V .Maltsev studied the content of vitamin D in organism of pregnant women, newborns and children of all ages, which allowed to fundamentally reconsider the widespread clinical use of vitamin D for prophylactic and therapeutic purposes.
He has conducted a series of studies for identification of principal pathogenetic mechanisms of rachitis’ various forms among children, developed criteria of diagnosis and treatment of its resistant forms, determined new mechanisms of tubulopathy, causes of chronic pyelonephritis, developed and introduced into clinical practice new methods of diagnosis and treatment of nephropathy among children.
Based on results of medical study carried out among several thousands residents from different areas of Tatarstan and identification of a range of elements which they have (zinc, strontium, aluminum, silicon, lead, iron, chromium, selenium) he has established standards of their content in various biological fluids of healthy children of different ages and adults. He studied the pathogenetic and clinical significance of changes in elements’ content in the course of kidney disease, various forms of rickets, pathology of the digestive apparatus of children. Based on these studies he developed a system of medical and ecological rehabilitation for children, which is successfully used in many hospitals and health centers of the Republic of Tatarstan.
Under the guidance of S.V. Maltsev was published a series of scientific papers on the role of intrauterine infections in the pathology of women, children and adolescents. There were first conducted multidisciplinary studies of the role of mycoplasmal, cytomegaloviral, and chlamydial infection in the pathology of pregnant women, newborns and children of young and elderly age, developed clinical and functional diagnosis methods and treatment principles.
At present time genetic aspects of kidney diseases among children, providing children with vitamin D and the state of the youngsters’ health are under study.
S.V. Maltsev is an active participant of Russian and international congresses, rallies and conferences (the USA, Austria, Italy, Cyprus, Germany, and etc.), an author of more that 500 scientific works. Under his guidance there were defended seven PhD theses and more than forty Candidate’s dissertations. He is the Chairman of the Scientific Council of the “Maternal and Child health care” at the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan.
For more than thirty years S.V. Maltsev is the chairman of the board of the Union of Pediatricians of the Republic of Tatarstan, initiator of many republican research and practice conferences and seminars.
He is awarded medals “For Valorous Labor” and “In Commemoration of the 1000th Anniversary of Kazan”.
