Dural arteriovenous fistula as a cause of subarachnoid hemorrhage

Spinal arteriovenous malformations (AVM) are abnormal connections between the arteries and veins of the spinal cord. The most serious complication of spinal AVMs is their rupture with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) and/or intramedullary hemorrhage. The symptoms of the disease are nonspecific; that is why the patients are often observed with the other diagnoses. Of particular interest is the fact that this pathology can occur in young people without cardiovascular risk factors, as it is an anatomical feature of the spinal cord vascular network. The paper describes a clinical case of a rare spinal dural arteriovenous fistula with signs of spinal cord compression against the background of which a young patient developed two episodes of spontaneous SAH.
