Objective ― to evaluate the contribution of comorbid pathology of hypertension and obstructive sleep apnea syndrome to structural and functional changes in the arteries in the context of the concept of early vascular aging.
Material and methods. An observational cross-sectional study was conducted. 80 people were included in the study, 39 of them were in the main group of comorbid patients with arterial hypertension and obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, 41 ― in the comparison group of men with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. Ultrasonography of the carotid arteries was performed.
Results. The facts that indicate increased rigidity, a decrease in the elasticity of blood vessels, along with an increase in the speed of the pulse wave are revealed. However, in the main group, the diameter of the common carotid artery was 8% larger, and the relative wall thickness was 13% higher than in the comparison group.
Conclusion. Sleep-disordered breathing, as well as arterial hypertension, are associated with accelerated vascular aging. At the same time, comorbid association of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome with arterial hypertension leads to rougher morphological changes of the vessels and is associated with a dilation pattern of arterial remodeling.
Key words: obstructive sleep apnea, arterial hypertension, aging, blood vessels, stiffness.
