The article presents and summarizes the literature data on sleep disorders in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). Sleep disorders are four times more common in patients with multiple sclerosis than in the general population. However, in some cases it can be difficult to determine whether fatigue is related to sleep disorders or directly to the pathogenesis of MS. Some dissomnia are significantly associated with MS: for example, the prevalence of restless legs syndrome in multiple sclerosis is higher than in the general population, and some patients with MS have symptoms similar to narcolepsy. In various foreign studies, sleep disorders in patients with multiple sclerosis range from 25 to 74% of MS patients, with the highest prevalence observed in women. In addition, sleep disorders in MS can also exacerbate pain, contribute to the progression of depression and fatigue, can negatively affect the process of remyelination and disrupt cognitive functions, especially attention, working memory, visual memory, verbal memory and information processing speed.
Key words: multiple sclerosis, sleep disorders, dissomnia, restless legs syndrome.
