The problem of peritonitis in cancer patients is one of the most pressing in modern abdominal surgery, since this complication is associated with unacceptably high mortality rate of patients, up to 90% in the postoperative period. The article presents the review of literature on the frequency of peritonitis in cancer patients with diseases of the abdominal organs, features of its etiology, pathogenesis, and surgical strategy.

Key words: diffuse peritonitis, postoperative peritonitis, tumors of the abdominal organs, stomach cancer, colorectal cancer.
