The similarity of clinical course of diabetes mellitus type 2 and secondary diabetes mellitus in acromegaly syndrome predetermine the occurrence of difficulties for physicians in choosing the tactics of patient treatment. In the described case, the manifestation of acromegaly for 6 years was manifested as a violation of carbohydrate metabolism, classified as diabetes mellitus type 2 in the absence of proper diagnostics of pituitary dysfunctions. Because of the diagnosis of somatotropinoma, the patient was prescribed medication and surgical therapy, which contributed to a reduction in the patient’s need for insulin. Timely recognition of the symptoms of acromegaly, proper diagnosis and appropriate treatment can help better compensate for carbohydrate metabolism in patients with acromegaly.
