At the verge of the 19th and 20th centuries, in the world and Russian science it was stated that radiation should be used for uterine cancer treatment. In Kazan, after 10 years of experience of uterine cancer treatment, Prof. V.S. Gruzdev found that only 17.1% of cases could be treated operatively. In other cases symptomatic treatment was to be applied (hemostasis, pain control). Quire logically, he made a lot of effort to introduce and thoroughly research radiation therapy. In 194 he purchased a therapeutic device, and in 1916 – 100 mg of radium. In the following 20 years, up to the last days of his life, he actively applied these means of treatment, broadly publishing his results in reports and in press. His disciples continued his research up to the 1960-s. This article is devoted to the development of roentgen and radiation treatment of uterine cancer in Kazan.
