 The article is devoted to a review of unknown pages of the biography of Dmitriy Ivanovich Levitskiy — a talented scholar, doctor and teacher, professor of midwifery, who lived and worked in Russia at the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th century. Information is given about the main stages of life and activities of the scientist: student years, medical practice, teaching and social activities. The bibliographic data of all known printed works by D.I. Levitskiy are given, his contribution to the development of midwifery is described. The article will allow the readers not only to familiarize themselves with the biography of Professor D.I. Levitskiy, but will also expand knowledge in the history of medicine and the development of obstetric practice in Russia.
