The aim of the study is to analyze present-day knowledge on the diagnosis of the fetal growth retardation syndrome. Methods. The literature was reviewed on the diagnosis of fetal growth retardation syndrome by echographic and dopplerometric examination, cardiotocography, and the determination of the vascular endothelial growth factor in blood. The publications of the Russian and foreign authors were studied. Results. The most informative markers for assessing the severity of fetal condition in fetal growth retardation syndrome are the pathological indicators of the blood flow of the mother-placenta-fetus system, as well as the determination of the level of the vascular endothelial growth factor in blood, the recording of which will allow a timely diagnosis and evaluation of the fetal condition in this complication of gestation. Conclusions. The data of the conducted research have shown the necessity of using different methods of evaluation of the severity of the fetal growth retardation syndrome.
Key words: dopplerometry, vascular endothelial growth factor, placental insufficiency, fetal growth retardation syndrome.
