This article reports the results of determining the peptide hormone hepcidin in 64 patients with community-acquired pneumonia. The interaction between hepcidin and interleukine-6, —10, erythropoietin, indicators of iron metabolism and peripheral blood is explained. Is presented the role of hepcidin in pathogenesis of anemia in case of community-acquired pneumonia. New data were found concerning the influence of hepcidin on recovery of iron metabolism and level of hemoglobin on outcomes of community-acquired pneumonia.
Key words: community-acquired pneumonia, anemia, hepcidin, cytokines, iron metabolism.
