The article presents the results of the study of 316 children with rotavirus gastroenteritis. The author gives the comparative characteristic of clinical course of the disease, depending on the selected empirical causal treatment. The author describes the peculiarities of the negative impact of antibacterial drugs, which are not recommended for rotavirus gastroenteritis. The antibiotic-associated syndromeis described, which developed in some patients even after ashort-term antibiotic therapy. This syndrome occurs after 3-5 days of antibiotic treatment, manifested by the appearance or strengthening of a variety of the diseaseclinical manifestations. It is necessary to use the rational approach to antibiotic prescribing in the complex therapy of infectious gastroenteritis of various etiologies, starting with the emergency department, which will help to prevent the development of antibiotic-associated syndrome and positively influence both the course of the disease and the duration of a sick child’sstay in hospital.
