    The article presents the results of a complex clinical and laboratory examination of 939 pregnant women, who, depending on the pre-gestational body mass index (BMI), were divided into 3 groups: with normal body weight (n=392), overweight (n=312) and obesity (n=235). In accordance with the object in view, the mass and nature of the distribution of adipose tissue, the level of adipocytokines, carbohydrate metabolism were assessed, also the analysis of the frequency of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and macrosomia of the fetus was made. In the course of the correlation and one-factor analysis it was established that obesity is an independent risk factor for GDM, regardless of the nature of fat deposition. An increase in the mass of adipose tissue with predominant localization in the visceral region is associated with an imbalance of adipocytokines in the form of hyperleptinemia, hypodiponectinemia, which in turn contributed to the development of violations of carbohydrate metabolism, increasing the frequency of GDM and fetal macrosomia.
