52 patients with a combination of age-related cataract and primary open angle glaucoma with normalized IOP have been examined, as well as 48 patients of comparable age and gender with age-related cataracts without the presence of glaucoma. Phacoemulsification (PE) with implantation of intraocular lens in the capsular bag has been performed for everybody. Biochemical assessment of baseline of free radical oxidation (FRO) of intracameral moisture has been made. In all 12 eyes with recurrent rise in IOP after PE the indicators of FRO were significantly higher; the presence of the majority of factors complicating PE was noted, as well the 3rd stage of glaucoma. Clinical and biochemical relationship is revealed between the original combination of 4-5 factors aggravating PE against the background of far-advanced stage of POAG (rigid pupil is less than 3.5 mm; thick nucleus of lens of the 4th degree; subluxation of lens if the 1st degree; PES of the II-III degrees), the initially high rates of FRO on the one hand, and the increase in IOP in late postoperative period of PE on the other hand (Spearman coefficient ρ=0,72, p˂0,01).
Key words: recurrent rise in intraocular pressure, cataract phacoemulsification, aggravating eye factors, free-radical oxidation.
