The article gives the results of clinical analysis of distal tibiofibular articulation fixation. Clinical analysis is done on the base of the Department of Traumatology at the City clinical hospital of emergency named after G.A. Zakharyin in Penza during years 2008-2015. All the patients have tibiofibular articulation trauma. The treatment consists of osteosynthesis by AO method. The research includes angularometry and questionnaire by Harold B. Kitaoka in periods of 2, 4, 6 and 12 months after surgical operation. The results demonstrate that AO method could cause long-term negative effects concerned with restrictions of the joint motion. There are also such complications as breakage of fixation construction elements. One of the main reasons of long-term negative effects is distal tibiofibular articulation motion restrictions which disturb its biomechanical functions. Increase in the efficiency of treatment of distal tibiofibular articulation could be concerned with the development of a new class of fixation constructions that provides physiological motion range in distal tibiofibular articulation and stability of fixation, and takes into account dynamical properties of distal tibiofibular articulation.

Key words: tibiofibular articulation, trauma, AO method.
