The article presents results of retrospective of 65 records of patients who underwent liver resection. Bile leakage amounted to 12.3% among the postoperative complications. The most likely causes of bile leakage were: jaundice and the presence of purulent inflammation in the preoperative period. Patients with bile leakage had significantly increased bleeding during surgery and increased volume of discharge drains on the first postoperative day. Groups of patients with bile leakage and without this complication in the postoperative period showed different deviations when comparing the biochemical data (bilirubin, ALT and AST). It is suggested that the state of biliary liver function before surgery influences the incidence of bile leakage from liver injury in postoperative period.
Key words: liver resection, preoperative and postoperative period, bile leakage.
