Malignant neoplasms hold one of the leading positions (15,5%) at the mortality rate. Oncological diseases of the gastro-intestinal tract are characterized by so called pre-cancerous conditions (Barrett’s esophagus, atrophic gastritis, chronic pancreatitis), the prompt diagnosis and treatment of which can prevent the development of cancer. This article gives data on the frequency of oncological diseases of gastro-intestinal tract, and awareness of primary care physicians in Kazan and students of the State Medical University about the main principles of  oncological prophylaxi. Direct correlation was found between knowledge level of doctors and severe condition of malignant neoplasms of esophagus, ventricle and large intestine. The students showed many-sided but at the same time not complete knowledge of cancer prevention in gastroenterology. Collected data demonstrate some knowledge gaps related to carcinogenesis and cancer prevention amongst primary care physicians and medical students.
