The quality of life was assessed with questionnaire SF-36 v.2 in 250 patients with syphilis, during treatment and 1 month after therapy termination. It is shown than syphilis has heterogenic influence on quality of life depending on the disease stage. In patients with primary syphilis the effect was mainly on physical health, while in patients with early and late latent syphilis, and secondary syphilis — on the psychological component of health. The study showed a minor impact on the quality of life in patients with latent unspecified syphilis. A month after the treatment termination the quality of life almost recovered for all forms observed, except secondary syphilis, in which the reduction on the scale persisted (compared with the average for the population), reflecting the psychological component of health.
Key words: syphilis, quality of life, SF-36.
