The aim of the study was to examine the vegetative tone and the level of adaptation and to determine their relationship in war veterans with the identified cardiovascular diseases during outpatient examination. A total of 88 participants of war veterans in Afghanistan and Chechnya were examined, at the age of 28 to 60 years, at mean age 48.9 ± 6.6 years (M ± σ). The correlation between HRV parameters and diagnosed cardiovascular diseases (CVD), hypertension and heart rhythm disorders was revealed. The prevailing number of cardiovascular diseases was diagnosed in patients with sympathic tone compared to the patients with normal and parasimpatic tones. These results prove the necessity to group patients with sympathic tone and various levels of disadaptation into the risk group by the presence of cardiovascular diseases and to carry out their further examination, first of all to identify cardiac arrhythmias and arterial hypertension.

Key words: heart rate variability, autonomic tone, level of adaptation, war veterans, cardiovascular diseases.
