HIV prevalence remains unacceptably high. Risk groups are named: young heterosexual men of low social status and people who stay away from home for a long time, homeless. The analysis of the prevention methods of HIV infection in different population groups is given. Quick success bring those prevention programs which are based on the interaction between state and public institutions. It is specified that the most effective are the programs adapted to the local social and economic conditions, focused on specific population groups. The role of pediatricians who work with adolescents in the screening of HIV-infection is explained. Especially justified is a prevention program that promotes healthy lifestyles, family values, prevention of early sexual activity. Criteria for evaluating the effectiveness of programs are given.
