This article deals with etiological structure of acute infectious diarrhea in children of the Republic of Tatarstan. It is shown that the leading position in the structure of modern acute intestinal infections is occupied by enteropathogenic viruses, mostly rotaviruses, in particular. Bacterial infections are recorded in 3.1-9.3% of the patients and salmonellosis predominates in this group. The article also proposes clinical criteria for selecting patients for screening for enteropathogenic bacterial flora: signs of hemorrhagic colitis, the frequency of episodes of loose stool is over 5 times per day, moderate vomiting — up to 2 times per day, high febrile fever (>390C). Dedicated «anxiety symptoms» will increase the sensitivity of the bacteriological diagnosis method and optimize the approaches to the medical treatment of children suffering from acute intestinal infections.

Key words: acute intestinal infections, etiology, diagnostics, children.
