    The article provides historical information on the detection of an abberant goiter. A picture of areas of the most frequent occurrence of ectopic thyroid tissue is presented. Statistical data on the frequency of this pathology are given. The embryological stages of thyroid gland development are considered. The clinical signs of abberant goiter, diagnostic techniques and indications for surgical treatment are indicated. Clinical cases of lingual and retrosternal goiter are considered.
