Evaluation of bone mineral density (BMD) and detection of osteopenia and osteoporosis in children of younger age groups are of particular importance, because pathology of bone mass at that age plays a crucial role throughout the evolution of the child. The article presents the description of the program (X-Ray Analysis), developed by the authors to measure BMD by digitized radiographs of scanned film images from X-ray equipment of general purpose. The measurement results of radiographs revealed differences of BMD between two groups of surveyed newborns.

Key words: bone mineral density in children, osteopenia, osteoporosis, computer analysis of digital radiographs.
