    The paper discusses issues of ultrasound examination in patients with rheumatoid arthritis: the assessment of joints and periarticular tissues inflammation, detection of bone erosions, therapy monitoring, prognostication of outcomes and role of ultrasound imaging in early rheumatoid and undifferentiated arthritis.

    Key words: rheumatoid arthritis, ultrasonography, synovitis, bone erosion.
