A comparative analysis of the clinical and functional results of the use of topographically customized transepithelial photorefractive keratectomy and deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty in treatment of stromal corneal opacity was made. Uncorrected visual acuity was statistically significantly higher in the group with topographically customized transepithelial photorefractive keratectomy as compared to the group with deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (0.52±0.03 (from 0.5 to 0.6) and 0.23±0.08 (from 0.1 to 0.3), respectively) (p=0.027), with statistically comparable values of the best corrected visual acuity (0.62±0.07 (0.5 to 0.7) and 0.5±0,13 (0.4 to 0.7), respectively) (p=0.461). There are no signs of keratectasia in any case.

Key words: transepithelial photorefractive keratectomy, corneal opacity, irregular astigmatism, deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty, herpetic stromal keratitis, PCR-based diagnostics.
