    The article gives the definition of «personality stabilizing system» as a functional system, providing under stress conditions 1) psychical stability, 2) possible adaptation, 3) preservation of mental and physical health. The role of personality stabilizing system is shown in etiology of psychosomatic process. The issues of psychological prophylaxis of psychosomatic disorders are considered. The research is devoted to the comparative analysis of prognostic competence, psychological defences and coping-behaviour of healthy respondents (145 people), patients with a various psychosomatic pathology (30 people) and oncological patients (30 people). In a situation of somatic disease patients possess the lowered adaptable potential and prefer unconscious psychological defence mechanisms than a constructive decision of a problem situation.
