Objective ― to present a brief literature review and a clinical case of a patient with pulmonary embolism due to thrombosis of a pacemaker electrode.

Material and methods. Literature and medical documentation of a patient with pulmonary embolism due to thrombosis of a pacemaker electrode (inpatient card) were studied.

Results. A brief review of medical literature on thromboembolic complications of cardiac pacing and clinical characteristics of the disease in the patient are given; laboratory and instrumental data are presented; the effectiveness of treatment with new oral anticoagulants is demonstrated.

Conclusion. For patients with implanted pacemakers, regardless of the timing of implantation, alertness to the development of complications, including thromboembolic ones, is necessary.

Key words: cardiac pacing, pulmonary artery thromboembolism, oral anticoagulants.
