Purpose. To establish the clinical neuropsychiatric and neuropsychological features of children with atopic dermatitis.
Material and methods. The study involved children 147 from 6 to 12 years old with an established diagnosis of atopic dermatitis; the control group consisted of 90 healthy children of the same age. All children underwent clinical-anamnestic, neurological, psychopathological and neuropsychological studies.
Results. We discovered strong relationship in children with atopic dermatitis between the early-stage damage of central nervous system and the development of mental and neurological disorders. In all children with atopic dermatitis who underwent neuropsychological research, various deficiencies of neuropsychological functions were found.
Conclusion: the clinical dynamics of neuropsychiatric disorders in children with atopic dermatitis has been consistent with the dynamics of residual cerebral organic impairment with an inherent change of syndromes depending on the stages of neuropsychiatric response. The revealed neuropsychological disorders correspond to the predominant damage to the first (energy) functional block of the brain.
Key words: children, atopic dermatitis, mental disorders, neuropsychology.
