This study presents a literature review and a case of preeclampsia complicated with (H)ELLP syndrome and acute kidney lesion. Preeclampsia is a multisystem disease characterized by hypertension, pathology of the vessels of kidneys, liver and brain. These clinical manifestations occur due to endothelial dysfunction, vessel constriction and ischemia of target organs. Preeclampsia develops due to the abnormal placental angiogenesis during pregnancy, caused by the high level of angiogenic inhibitors, soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase and soluble endoglin.
There are various complications of preeclampsia. HELLP syndrome is a severe complication characterized by the increased level of liver transaminase and thrombocytopenia. The hemodynamic and endothelial changes combined with the volume deficit make kidneys more vulnerable to acute lesions.
Key words: preeclampcia, (H)ELLP syndrome, acute tubular necrosis, acute kidney cortical necrosis.
