The study objective was to assess the state of the pancreas in children, taking into account the pancreatic elastase of blood serum and feces. Pancreatic elastase was studied in 115 children aged 7-15 years with combined gastroduodenal and biliary pathology. The method under study showed 100% sensitivity and 98% specificity for differential diagnosis of functional and structural changes in the prostate. The coprologic test enables to quantitatively determine the level of elastase-1, reflecting the degree of pancreatic insufficiency. The use of this test for quantitative determination of elastase-1 in blood serum makes it possible to assess the level of enzyme under reactive pancreatitis. In accordance with modern concepts, determination of pancreatic elastase can be considered a “gold standard” for diagnosing chronic pancreatitis, a marker for exocrine pancreatic gland function (coprologic test) and an indicator of reactive pancreatitis (determination of serum elastase-1).
