To evaluate the clinical efficacy of a combined topic therapy in patients with atopic dermatitis complicated by secondary pyogenic infection without systemic antibacterial drugs.
Material and methods. 60 patients with atopic dermatitis complicated by secondary pyogenic infection were under observation. Two treatment options were used: complex treatment in accordance with standards and clinical recommendations and complex treatment including a combined topic agent containing betamethasone and mupirocin.
Results. Clinical features of atopic dermatitis complicated by a secondary infection are presented. Brief information on the role of S. aureus in the development of pyogenic processes on the skin in patients with atopic dermatitis is given. The analysis of the microbiota species composition from the affected skin sites in patients with severe atopic dermatitis complicated by a secondary infection is presented. A new index is proposed for the clinical evaluation of the severity of secondary infection in dermatological patients.
The conclusions. The clinical efficacy of the combined topic agent was demonstrated, without including systemic antibacterial drugs in the complex therapy.
Key words: atopic dermatitis, Staphylococcus aureus, skin microflora, antibiotic resistance, betamethasone dipropionate, mupirocin, combined topic therapy, index for evaluating the severity of pyogenic manifestations in patients with dermatoses.
