The topicality of the problem of keratectasias is due to the increased incidence of this pathology, which is explained by the improvement of the diagnostic equipment and the frequency of surgical interventions: refraction operations, keratoplsty, and treatment of posttraumatic changes in cornea. In this work, a detailed review of modern literature is presented devoted to the issues of etiology and pathogenesis of keratectasias development, both primary and secondary. In particular, risk factors for the development of secondary keratectasias are underlined. Modern conceptions of classification of this group of diseases are described. The variants of various non-surgical and surgical methods of treatment are presented. The variants of surgical and non-surgical treatment methods are presented.

Key words: keratectasia, refractive surgery, crosslinking, keratoplasty.
