Microflora analysis of auditory pathways in 1089 patients, which has been performed in the bacteriological and mycological laboratories, allowed determining the most frequent combination of bacteria and fungi. The studies showed a trend towards an increase in fungal and mixed lesions of external auditory canal (39.7% of cases — mixed fungal-bacterial infections, mixed fungal infections, fungi). In addition, new pathogens were identified that were not previously described in the literature: fungi Trichophyton, and Fusarium, Rhodotorula, Malassezia and bacteria (C. freundi, C. diversis). All this poses new challenges to otorhynolaryngologists concerning treatment and prevention of otitis externa.
Key words: otitis externa, mixed microflora, antifungal drugs.
