The review contains information about the importance of endothelial dysfunction in the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in children. The potential mechanisms for the development of endothelial dysfunction in CKD are described, including oxidative stress, defects of arginine metabolism and the reversely connected nitric oxide metabolism, as well as the increased levels of asymmetric dimethylarginine.
Key words: endothelial dysfunction, chronic kidney disease, nitric oxide, oxidative stress, asymmetric dimethylarginine.
