Currently, hearing pathology is one of the most important social problems in the Russian Federation. Hearing impairment leads to the lack of information, affects the psycho-emotional state of a person and in some cases leads to a violation of an individual’s quality of life. There are 13 million people with hearing impairment in the Russian Federation. Short exposure to very loud sounds leads to temporary reduction of hearing. Under normal conditions, in a day or two hearing restores. But if a person is subjected to prolonged exposure to loud noises, it may lead to an impairment or even loss of hearing.

Today from 2.5 million to 10 million people regularly use MP3-players, listening to very loud music. Such popularity of audio players and vacuum headphones effects the functional state of the acoustic analyzer, especially in young people.

Key words: hearing, sensorineural hearing impairment, MP3-players, increased acoustic load, new risks to health.
