This article presents an analysis of the results of twenty years of experience in the treatment of hydrocephalus using shunting systems. The article treats of the frequency of reinterventions after implantation of shunts and the range of possible complications. Every second patient needed exploration of a shunt. Herewith, more than half of them had a dysfunction within a year after implantation. The tendency to an earlier installation of shunts is discovered.
Key words: hydrocephalus, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) shunting, shunt malfunction.
