Various obstetric and gynecological disorders, such as placental retention, dysfunctional bleeding and endometrial polyps can cause postpartum uterine bleeding. Placental remnants and arteriovenous malformations are often found in uterine bleeding in the late postpartum period. Optimal treatment based on a correct differential diagnosis is necessary. Differential diagnosis of the placental bed made with an ultrasound examination is essential. An ultrasound examination and determination of the chorionic gonadotropin level are the basic steps in the diagnostic. In the absence of massive bleeding, hemodynamic stability of the patient with suspected placental polyp, it is advisable to conduct hysteroscopy for therapeutic and diagnostic purposes. The article presents the advantages of hysteroscopy in this type of pathology and describes a clinical case of a patient with placental remnants.
Key words: placental remnants, hysteroscopy, retained products of conception.
