Frequency of myopia and functional indicators of visual organ in students of Orenburg State Medical University on the basis of results of complex medical examination was studied. The prevalence of myopia among students of OrSMU was 29.5±1.4%, and mild degree was found in 15.9% of cases, the average degree in 9.8% of cases, the high degree in 3.8% of cases. The pattern of development of myopia, depending on the age of its occurrence was defined; it was made clear that the first diagnosis of myopia was set at 29.5% of the students in the primary school age. In case of progression of myopia happens the increase of anteroposterior and horizontal dimension of an eye. At an easy degree, anteroposterior dimension was 23.19±0.06 mm and 23.22±0.06 mm (OD and OS, respectively), with an average degree — 23.72±0.09 mm and 23.71±0.08 mm, at a high degree — 24.57±0.18 mm and 24.50±0.19 mm. It is found that the horizontal size of the eyeball increases by a mean of 0.34 mm.
Key words: myopia, students, anteroposterior size, refraction.
