Objective ― to study the results of diagnosis and treatment of patients with thyroid cancer in combination with diffuse toxic goiter.
Material and methods. The results of diagnosis and treatment of 31 patients with thyroid cancer in combination with diffuse toxic goiter were studied.
Results. The average age of patients with thyroid cancer in combination with diffuse toxic goiter was 46.2±1.7 y.o., the average antibody titer to thyrotropin-releasing hormone receptors was 8.8±1.4 units/l, thyroidectomy was performed in 35%, hemithyreoidectomy of one lobe of the thyroid gland and extremely subtotal resection of the other lobe of the thyroid gland in 58%, extremely subtotal resection of the thyroid gland in 7%. Long-term treatment results were studied in 87.1%, the average observation time was 7.56±0.3 years. During the time of observation, there were no data on relapses of the disease and metastasis. This is due to the identification of highly differentiated microcarcinomas in combination with diffuse toxic goiter.
Conclusions. The frequency of thyroid cancer in combination with diffuse toxic goiter is 1.6%. In 87% of cases it was papillary cancer; in 61.3% of patients the size of the tumor was less than 1 cm. In patients with thyroid cancer in combination with diffuse toxic goiter, we consider it valid to perform both thyroidectomy and hemithyreoidectomy of one lobe of the thyroid gland and extremely subtotal resection of the other lobe of the thyroid gland.
