The aim of the study was to identify the features of the course of cytomegalovirus infection (CMVI) in HIV-infected infants.
Material and methods. 94 children under 5 years of age with HIV infection were examined: with immunodeficiency (n=45) and absence of immune disorders (n=49). Enzyme immunoassay and molecular diagnostic methods were used.
Results. It was shown that gene markers CMVI occur in 48.9% of immunodeficiency cases, often combined with other opportunistic diseases ― herpes simplex virus (HSV), candidiasis. More frequent are the acquired forms of the disease (with lesions of liver, lungs, kidneys), occurring in the form of active infection or its reactivation, with a severe, prolonged course, requiring long-term etiotropic therapy. Congenital form of CMVI was observed in one patient who developed meningoencephalitis.
Conclusion. When the immune status reduces to the stage of deep immunodeficiency and CMV gene markers are detected in children with HIV-infection, it is necessary to prescribe etiotropic treatment of cytomegaly.
Key words: cytomegalovirus infection, HIV-infected children, immunodeficiency.
