Physical development, specifics of actual nutrition and body composition by the method of bioimpedance analysis (BIA) of school-age children were studied in the city of Samara. There are 2 groups of children: healthy, 1-2 groups of health, and a group of children with inflammatory bowel disease. In a group of schoolchildren suffering from inflammatory bowel disease it was revealed that boys and girls aged 6-8 years 11 months had significantly lower body mass indices (BMI) in comparison with healthy children. Similar differences were noted in the indicators of BIA. In the group of boys of 9–11 years 11 months significant differences were found in body weight and BMI. Herewith, having the lower body weight, the boys with inflammatory bowel disease had a greater proportion of fatty component with equal values of skeletal muscle mass. In the survey it was found that 31 children (68.8 %) with inflammatory bowel disease had dietary restrictions related to the presence of the disease, where 20 % of children felt “special” because of dietary restrictions as compared with healthy peers. Among schoolchildren with eating restrictions, 26 children (57.7 %) violated the diet in the company of friends, which often led to exacerbations of the disease. Thus, in the treatment of children with inflammatory bowel disease, stabilization of physical development parameters or restoration of age parameters is a criterion for the effectiveness of complex therapy.
Key words: school-aged children, physical development, anthropometry, bioimpedansometry, rational nutrition, inflammatory bowel disease.
