The article presents the results of the study of free-radical processes in model systems with the use of vital dyes based on trypan blue, widely used in ophthalmic surgery for visualization of anterior chamber of the eye. Anti-oxidation ability was evaluated by chemiluminescence registration. When tested in vitro and in vivo, intense antioxidant activity of the studied dyes was registered. Feasibility of using home made vital dye in practical ophthalmology in view of its potential protective effects in oxidative stress is evaluated.
Key words: vital dye, chemiluminescence, antioxidant status.
