The article presents the results of a clinical and experimental morphological study of donor eyes which had not pass the morphological verification for pseudoexfoliation syndrome (PEX). Ultrabiomicroscopic, macroscopic and cytohistologic analyses revealed that in 11 out of 16 donor eyes with the signs of intravital endothelial dysfunction had deposits of pseudoexfoliation material (PEM) facing the posterior chamber. The comparative study of the clinical features of PEX and morphology of donor eyes with PEM revealed the initial signs of PEX development in those donor eyes, which confirms the possibility to use them as a sole experimental model for PEX research.

Key words: pseudoexfoliation syndrome, donor eyes, morphology in vivo and ex vivo
