The article presents a literature review concerning the changes of cytokine status in patients with anemia of chronic diseases. Сhronic diseases anemia is characterized by a systemic inflammation, which causes numerous negative effects. The systemic inflammation is manifested, among other things, by a change in the cytokine status, which affects all human organs and systems. The authors consider the main pathogenetic and clinical effects of changes in cytokine status in chronic diseases anemia. This relationship is bi-directional: some changes in pro-inflammatory cytokines may be an independent cause of the anemic syndrome development or its aggravation. Currently, anemia of chronic diseases and its mutual influence on pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines remains an urgent problem of medicine. New possible pathogenetic mechanisms are being studied and their solutions are being sought to improve the patients’ life quality.
Key words: anemia of chronic diseases, cytokine status.
